Color Magic: Black

Black has been associated with dark or negative magic because of its link with funerals, seances and other things that happen in the dark. In all honesty though, there is no such thing as black magic or white magic. Magic is about intention and need, therefore it is nearly impossible to sum it up in one or two colors.

Black is one of the most useful and powerful colors to use in spell-work. It is a powerful grounding color and aids focus. It is highly protective and useful in workings that include banishing, separating, binding, and increasing personal confidence and power. As it is highly absorbent, both of light and power, black is particularly useful in drawing spells.

Black is not a true color, it is both an absence of color and light, and at the same time, it is all colors together, without light. One of its most powerful uses is in absorbing negativity. Black is also the color of the new moon with its attendant energies of anticipation and cycles ending and beginning.
